Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice-President of the United States. Harris is the first female vice president and highest-ranking female official of U.S. History, as being the first African American and second Asian American vice president. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally, she served as the United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then, she was hired by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. Harris was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010, and was elected again in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sánchez during the 2016 Senate elections, becoming the 2nd African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to serve as senator in the United States Senate. She was a senator , and advocated for healthcare reform and federal cannabis de-scheduling. She also advocated for an opportunity to become a citizen for immigrants without a legal status as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons as well as progressive tax reform. She earned national attention for her pointed questions of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of assault on a woman.
